Indian center gets $182,319 grant

American Indian Health & Services (AIH&S) has received a $182,319 grant from the Public Health Institute to combat chewingt tobacco sponsorship of rodeos.

The Institute's Tobacco-Free Events Project made the grant to AIH&S to further its work in the Families Against Chewing Tobacco Sampling (FACTS) Project.

FACTS works with the community to discourage sponsorship of rodeos by tobacco companies, enlisting seven high school rodeo riders as spokespersons.

Each youth rodeo rider will wear a sponsorship shirt and jacket to all California High School Rodeo Assn. events, and will place a magnetic sign on their vehicle with a logo of a bucking bull and rider kicking a chewing tobacco can.
