Join Families Against Chewing Tobacco Sampling,
and make a difference in our community!
Welcome to Families Against Chewing Tobacco
Sampling (FACTS), a coalition of youth and adults working to end
the free distribution and promotion of chewing tobacco in our community.
We are committed to improving the health of our community, and believe
that family events should not encourage and distribute addictive,
cancer causing products.
Youth participants are welcome! The FACTS project is currently sponsoring
high school rodeo participants who work to raise awareness of the
dangers of chewing tobacco, and encourage those who do chew to "buck
tobacco." Almost 100% of all tobacco users start when they
are young, so youth are the major target of tobacco promotions.
The Santa Maria Elks Rodeo is the only place in
the tri-counties (Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo) with
a family event that allows distribution of free chewing tobacco
samples. FACTS members have joined with another group, Coalition
Engaged in A Smoke-free Effort (CEASE), and together we encourage
the rodeo to drop the "chew booth" from this family event.
So join FACTS, enjoy rodeo without the chew, and
make a difference in your community. Contact us to find out how
you can help. In Santa Maria, send us an email at
or call (805) 346-7275. Outside Santa Maria, email .
