SUCCESS - The Poway Rodeo has given BIG TOBACCO the Boot!

This summer we're thanking the Poway Rodeo for its decision not to renew its contract with US Smokeless Tobacco, the maker of Copenhagen and Skoal spit tobacco.

Did you know that spit tobacco is even more addictive than cigarettes?

... Damaging teeth, gums, tongue, throat, lips, and more?

And did you know that tobacco companies target youth?

US Smokeless Tobacco was a Poway Rodeo sponsor for many years. Now the Poway Rodeo has made a bold step to improve the health of the Poway community - it's kicked out US Smokeless Tobacco and is recruiting new sponsors instead.

You will make a difference by joining the Buck Tobacco campaign. Here is what you could be doing:

  • Take part in American Lung Association/Buck Tobacco's Community Day Anti-Spit/Anti-Chew Float and Booth, plus our booth at the Poway Rodeo.

  • Write letters -- Let Poway Rodeo organizers know your appreciation that family friendly sponsors will replace tobacco companies who target youth

  • Meet with community leaders, service clubs and youth-serving organizations to tell them about your concern to support the campaign.

  • Volunteer for the Buck Tobacco Committee. There are many things to do, and all help is welcome.

These are just some of the things you can be involved with. For more information, call Kathy Sullivan at 1-800-586-4872 (1-800-LUNG USA), or by email at kathy@lungsandiego.org.
